Frequently Asked Questions

What kind of therapist are you?

I am what is known as an Integrative Counsellor & Psychotherapist. This simply means that I have been trained to work with the three main types of therapy; Psychodynamic, Person-Centred and CBT, which means that I can tailor my approach to suit your own needs and communication style.

Do you offer face to face Counselling?

As an online therapist, all of the sessions that I provide are done through Zoom.

Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions?

Not at all. I only see clients who are able to commit to weekly sessions but you do not need to commit to a certain length of time i.e. 6 weeks, 12 weeks etc.

I offer both short and long term work.

What should I expect from my first session?

During our first session, we will go through the Counselling Contract, which I will email to you in advance. Once we have discussed the Contract, the rest of the session will be used to talk about what's brought you to counselling and how you would like to use our time together.

I find it helpful to use an assessment form during this initial meeting. This form will be completed by me and it contains questions about your support network, your life experiences and some questions about how your daily life is being impacted by the issue/issues that you are facing. This form isn't anything to be worried about. It is simply a tool that helps me to gain a bigger picture of your life & the issues that you're facing. I find that it also helps my clients to open up and talk about the things that are important to them and the areas of their life that they would like work on.

Alongside the assessment form, I will ask you to complete a form which helps us both to look at how you've been feeling over the last 7 days. I will ask you to complete one of these forms at regular intervals during our time together as it will help us to see how our sessions are going and the progress that is being made.

At the end of our initial meeting, I will ask if you have any questions you would like to ask me and then together, we can decide whether I am the right Counsellor for you.

Are parents involved in the counselling sessions of their child?

If you’re a parent of a young person, I would be really happy to chat with you about how I might be able to support your son or daughter. If after that chat you go ahead and book an initial appointment, you can decide together whether they would like to attend the first session on their own or whether they would like you to come in for the first 10 minutes, During this time, we will go through the Counselling Contract and answer any questions you may have. I will then meet with the young person on their own. This will provide your son or daughter an opportunity to talk confidentially about the issues that have brought them to counselling. After this first session, I will then only meet with the young person.

How much do you charge?

Initial Appointment (60-90 minutes): £100

Individual Counselling Session (50 minutes): £60
